Abstract Baby artwork, such as the piece shown here, adds individuality to kids’ rooms.

An Artful Start

Take nursery decor to the next level with custom artwork created with your little one in mind. Abstract Baby, the latest project from local artist Tim Hussey and his wife, Elise, came about when Hussey crafted a diptych inspired by his newborn daughter. Regarding the work as a ”physical embodiment of his child’s past, present, and future,” Hussey wanted to lend a creative hand to other parents. An in-depth questionnaire helps the artist tailor the painting to both parents and tyke, with options for sizing (prices range from $350 to $950) and adding specific words, images, or colors. abstractbaby.co

Putting Down Roots

These days, you’d be hard-pressed to find a hip home lacking a Swiss cheese-leaved monstera or windowsill collection of succulents. In stride with the nationwide trend, businesses like Hægur Plant Store and Roadside Blooms have been fueling the local movement to go green. In July, Hægur opened the doors of its pop-up store front, peddling even more of the Instagram-able greenery its mobile counterpart is known for, as well as locally made goods [1102 King St., haegur.com]. In Park Circle, wedding florist and plant purveyor Roadside Blooms reopened in a larger space that allows room for a DIY terrarium bar and a wider selection of fresh-cut flowers and plants. 4610 Spruill Ave., roadsideblooms.com

Uncommon Scents

Stop and smell the roses (and the jasmine, and the cherry blossoms) at Londons, a European parfumerie in business for nearly 20 years in Virginia, Florida, and online before opening in the Shops at Belmond Charleston Place this summer. Having moved his store from St. Augustine to the Lowcountry in June, owner Ed Williams specializes in small-batch imports and fragrances made from natural botanicals and essential oils, stocking an array of fine British, French, and Italian brands such as Ortigia Sicilia, FLORIS London, and The Different Company. 142 Market St., shoplondons.com
