Smarty Pants
It isn’t easy being a tiny tot—what with all the crawling and climbing across not only cushy carpets but also slick hardwoods and tiles. Yet thanks to new local clothing company ModaBaby, making moves means less slipping and sliding: its GripStart Leggings (shown above), $40, have grippy material sewn right into the knees and seats. Creator (and mom) Katherine Hanson selected a soft but durable bamboo fabric for the pants, available in ”heather almond,” ”forest green,” and light and charcoal greys. [www.modababy.com]
Party with the Pros
Charleston Wedding Week™, presented by Diamonds Direct from January 23 to 28, gets 2017 off to a gorgeous, glamorous start. Produced by the team that creates Charleston Weddings (sister publication to Charleston) and The Wedding Row blog, the innovative event has roots in Charleston Fashion Week®, where it started as a morning of bridal runway shows. Now it’s a days-long affair attracting the likes of Abby Larson, founder and editor of Style Me Pretty; Darcy Miller, editor-at-large of Martha Stewart Weddings; and celeb wedding planner Mindy Weiss. While there are workshops for industry folks (and DIY brides), one and all can enjoy fashion shows (including national designer Lela Rose’s showcase at The Dewberry), signature experiences (intimate dinners out with the aforementioned luminaries), and even groom-friendly gatherings like the Pop-Up Party Presented by Belk at The Cedar Room. Celebrating a Century
This year marks the 100th in business for M. Dumas & Sons, and to celebrate, the iconic men’s retailer is holding monthly events throughout 2017. Keep an eye on the shop’s social media channels for details, but for now, we can tell you that April will bring a not-to-be-missed fashion showcase depicting a century of M. Dumas style. Fresh Accessories
The Holy City has a sweet new spot for handcrafted accessories: Porter Conrad Jewelry, which specializes in sterling silver. ”My husband, Geoff, and I buy all the stones and travel to Bali and Thailand twice a year to have our designs made by silver artisans,” notes owner Kelly Sigg. No strangers to the jewelry business, the recent transplants to Charleston have also owned Connecticut shop Pennyweights for some 17 years. [73 State St., (843) 297-8338]
