The Party: Once a year, Charleston's own Holy City Beard & Moustache Society gathers extravagantly moustachioed gentlemen from all over the Southeast for a spectacle like no other. The annual Beard & Moustache Championships were held in the Music Farm, and this year's event brought no shortage of outrageous sights. As participants competed in a number of categories, from best full or partial beard to over-the-top sideburns and goatees, the wildest of naturally grown and creatively styled facial hair was on display. Vendors shelled out products such as "beard butter" and specialty combs, and winners took home trophies for beating out the competition. Best of all? Proceeds were given to the Center for Women, an organization that educates and advocates for the success and leadership of women in South Carolina, as well as Big Brothers Big Sisters.
The Highlight: The "Southern Belle" category, in which female particpants sported elaborate "beards" made of everything from dollar bills to peacock feathers.
Overheard: "We don't shave! We don't shave!" —The audience, chanting.
Benficiary: Charleston Center for Women, Low Country Women with Wings, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carolina Youth Development Center.
