Global Textiles
Ibu Movement is partnering with luxury, to-the-trade fabric company Schumacher to create limited-edition curtain panels. The wool silk panels are made by female artisans in Kyrgyzstan from a felted fabric similar to what was once used to decorate the tribe’s yurts and floors. Additionally, Ibu offers a collection of shawls, tunics, jackets, and dresses using the sheer fabric, which features ancient Kyrgyz totems. Ibu‘s mission is to help support artisans by providing them resources needed to build their capacity, extend their reach, and earn fair salaries. [183 King St., ibumovement.com]
Now Open
You can now shop for the home decor items you’ve been admiring in the Ballard Designs catalog in person. The Atlanta-based furniture brand has opened its first
South Carolina store in Mount Pleasant Town Centre. The 9,000-square-foot space, formerly Pier 1 Imports, showcases indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, mirrors, performance fabrics, and coastal-inspired decor. Dominic Milanese, the company’s vice president of retail, cited the Lowcountry’s location, beautiful homes, and active lifestyles as key factors that attracted it to the area. Ballard Designs, owned by the same parent company as Home Shopping Network and Frontgate, operates 19 stores in 13 states. [1128 Market Center Blvd., ballarddesigns.com]
