You might remember this dapper photographer as one of four siblings behind the Brothers & Craft lifestyle blog. He’s gone solo as the director and photographer behind his own venture, Kirk Robert & Company, where he delivers a creative edge to brands such as Gal Meets Glam, J. Crew, and Haspel. Here, we talk style with the influencer
Q What interesting projects do you have on the horizon?
A During the past year, my company has turned into more of a production house, where clients ask us to come up with the creative direction, building sets from scratch, scouting locations, and so on. It’s been fun to see my workload evolve. I’ve got one cool project coming up this fall where we’re building a set on a closed-off cobblestone alley for a three-day shoot. That’s all I can share!
Q What’s your favorite fall outdoor activity in Charleston?
A When the weather is right, I invite friends over to sip on whiskey by a fire in my backyard. Usually, there’s a dart competition involved. One of my favorite whiskeys on my shelf is a Michter‘s 10-Year Rye.
Q Does your work as a photographer influence your style?
A I think it’s the other way around. I try to incorporate things that I love and appreciate into the stories and scenes I build. For instance, I’m a huge fan of classic jazz, and I love the style surrounding that time period. Chet Baker is one of my all-time favorites. In the past, I’ve created some stories to reflect the sentiment and emotion of Chet’s style and music.
Q Is there an accessory that you’re particular about—say your wallet, watch, or a hat?
A I collaborated with Erik at J. Stark on a passport wallet several years back, and I’ve used it every day since. I love the way the leather has worn in, but I also appreciate how it organizes my cards and holds my pocket-size notepad.
Q Describe your personal style.
A Tailored, classic, with a little contemporary edge. I have always been drawn to the classics—I love the simplicity. In the hot seasons, it’s a white T-shirt or loose linen shirt with chinos and huarache sandals. In the cooler months, it’s dark denim, an oxford shirt, and crew neck sweater or light coat.
