Get to know tastemaker Elizabeth Stuart, principal of Elizabeth Stuart (ESD) in Mount Pleasant, who has made the “search for beautiful” her life’s work
Q What’s your favorite interior paint color right now?
A I recently painted a small powder room in Farrow & Ball “Lichen” in high lacquer. It looks great!
Q How does your personal style translate to your designs?
A I buy what I love. Putting it all together comes after the fact. I have a little hippie and tomboy in me, but I love glamour, too.
Q Do you have a favorite shoe? What do you love about the design?
A Gucci “Marmont” pumps: I find them both classic and ridiculous. I love that they’re comfortable, fun, and not too serious.
Q How’d you get your start in interior design?
A As a child, I wanted a four-poster bed. My parents said, “No.” So I designed one myself!
Q Do you have a signature accessory?
A My Rebecca Lankford necklace. It’s so light it never has to come off, so I can keep what I love close by.
Q What’s your go-to social media feed for style inspiration?
A I am an Instagram fanatic. A few of my go-tos are @forsythart (above), @castellodireschio, and @serenacrawford.
Q Your ESD University sessions are a great way to gain styling and hosting tips. What’s next?
A “How to Make the Best Drinks” on July 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the shop. The class is free to attend.
Q What’s your all-time favorite flea market find?
A A Louis Vuitton trunk. The price was ridiculously low, and I tried not to shake as I negotiated the deal.
