The Party: With the likes of lavender chicken, oxtail stew, seared ahi tuna salad, and braised short rib on the menu, it’s hard to believe the meal was the work of five young chefs—elementary and middle school-aged kids, that is. With help from a group of acclaimed local chefs, students Aidan LaFave, Olivia Bischoff, Jeremiah Venning, Jaylen Jones, and Yasmin LaFave served up a five-course dinner to friends, volunteers, and supporters. Held this year at Hall’s Signature Events, the annual Little Chef Big Chef dinner was hosted by Louie’s Kids, an organization that promotes health and nutrition and equips young people with tools to fight obesity. The event enlisted area chefs to jpoin their pint-sized counterparts in the kitchen; the crew included Matt Greene of Hall’s Chophouse, Jill Mathias of Chez Nous, Jason Stanhope of FIG, Russ Moore of S.N.O.B, and DaVee Harned of Miller’s All Day. The “little chefs,” all participants in the Louie’s Kids program, were paired with one of the pros prior to the event to hone their skills in the kitchen, and after weeks of preparation, the group dazzled attendees with their culinary chops.
