By the time the 3:30 cowbell rings to mark the opening of the market, the primarily local crowd has already descended on the huge pavilion in front of Moultrie Middle School, kids and dogs and shopping bags in tow. There, tables are piled high with pickled goods, wild honey, and produce, with farmers offering up seasonal tastes of vine-ripened cantaloupes, fleshy peaches, and heirloom tomatoes in stunning shades. With an array of food vendors to choose from, you can cool off with treats from King of Pops and Cannonborough Beverage Company, or find a spot in the shade and enjoy live music from the bandstand and a full barbecue meal from Charleston Bay Gourmet. There’s also plenty to take home, from Rio Bertolini’s fresh-cut frozen pastas to homemade curries and classic tomato pie.
