The fashionable founder of Gregory Blake Sams Events talks at-home entertaining, good grooming, and holiday gift lists
Last year, Blake Sams (left) and his team adorned The Dewberry in magnolia leaf garlands.
Q What are you working on right now?
A We’re doing the holiday decor at The Dewberry; the minimal interiors give us an opportunity to do really thick garlands and massive wreaths. Then it’s on to a modern wedding at the Gibbes Museum.
Q Have-to-have grooming products?
A Le Labo “Hinoki” shower gel, Le Labo “Santal 33” cologne—the perfect musky yet clean scent—and Natura Bissé’s hydrating “Diamond Mist”
Q Favorite way to spend free time?
A Antiquing—the hunt never ends! Locally, I go to Fritz Porter and Antiques of South Windermere, plus Arcanum in Savannah.
Q What’s on your holiday wish list?
A Susan Gregory’s one-of-a-kind Ceramic SCG “Waxing Moon” plates. I cannot bear to look at a standard Pottery Barn white plate anymore.
Q Top party-music picks?
A I’m obsessed with Dixon Rye’s Spotify playlist and Pandora One’s “Bossa Nova.” And this time of year, I throw in Ella Fitzgerald holiday tunes.
Q Name a necessary indulgence.
A Having wonderful candles in my home. Currently, I’m burning The Contents Co.’s “Salvia” and Le Labo’s “Santal 26.”
Q Menswear brands to which you’re most loyal?
A Sid Mashburn for suiting essentials [the “Virgil No. 3 Jacket” is above], Billy Reid for outerwear, and Bonobos for work wear.
Q What are you excited to gift this season?
A Amara’s “Milly” acrylic tumblers, because they’re great for the porch, the pool, or even a downtown golf cart ride, and J. Stark bags, which are locally made using American materials.
