Folly’s farmers market is exactly what you’d expect from the most laid-back surfer-hippie corner of Charleston County. The little lot at West Huron and Center streets takes on a decidedly coastal accent when the market convenes there Wednesdays after work, becoming part bar-bar (there’s always live music, and The Grill and Island Bar sets up an outdoor watering hole with craft beer and local hooch) and part farm-bar (complete with the requisite veggies, fresh pasta, and organic olive oil). Thanks to The Seafood Lady, who offers up fresh-off-the-boat catches of the day in iced-down coolers, and organizer Richard “Dicky” Brendel, who books Flipper Finders kayak tours from his booth, it’s clear this is no land-locked to-do. Add a handful (and by “handful” we mean one or two tables) of arts and crafts and the occasional Pet Helpers adoption drive, and it’s essentially a hang-loose neighborhood spot where goods, news, and stories are swapped. If you’re wondering who’s selling or playing each week, visit their Facebook page for the weekly “posters” detailing the what’s what.
