Find out how she developed the concept and her plans to grow the business
Stay Luggage Racks founder Courtney Bukowsky.
For furniture refresher Courtney Bukowsky, the desire to create a home-away-from-home blossomed into a business idea. The College of Charleston graduate was working as an aesthetician when she developed a side hustle buying and lacquering vintage furniture she sold via Instagram. While at a home show in Beaufort in March 2023, she remembered that she had three vintage faux bamboo luggage racks, decided to lacquer them, and replaced the straps with colorful woven ones. “People went crazy over them,” says Bukowsky. “When people would walk past my booth, they would say, ‘I love a luggage rack! Nobody makes pretty ones!’”
She launched her new business, Stay Luggage Racks, in June 2023, aimed at making “the guest bedroom feel like home.” The lightweight, foldable racks, designed with a chic, Palm Beach aesthetic, come in a variety of styles, including an orange with celery green straps called the “Honey,” named after her mother.
Earlier this year, Bukowsky closed her One of a Find furniture business in order to focus on making quality guest-room accessories and to have more time to attend nationwide home shows and events. She plans to expand the Stay business in a wholesale capacity to include other guest room goods, such as serving trays, eye masks, towels, and slippers. “The idea for the business happened organically. Lots of changes are coming this year,” Bukowksy exclaims. “We are excited to see where it takes us.”
