Beau & Ro designer Sara Rossi on her “Every Dress” and looking forward to fall
August 2020

This New England-bred designer launched Beau & Ro accessories in 2013 while living in Manhattan with a leather clutch that converted into a belt bag. Four years later, she moved to Charleston as the co-founder of The Skinny Dip to open its King Street shop, which quickly gained a fashionable following. After parting with The Skinny Dip, the entrepreneur debuted her Beau & Ro boutique at Towne Centre last year and expanded her line from bags and earrings to include globally sourced shoes and accessories and The Every Dress. Here, Rossi talks about her latest designs and looking forward to fall

Q Tell us about your new Every Dress.
A
After I moved to Charleston, I found myself on the hunt for that “perfect, easy dress.” So I decided to make it. I wanted to create a thoughtful dress for every body and every occasion. Button it or unbutton it. Tie it in the front or back. Roll the sleeves or not. Make it yours. The dress is produced in an eco-friendly, sustainable Tencel fabric in an ethically conscious, woman-owned factory in Mumbai.

Q How do you transition summer pieces to fall?
A
It’s all in the footwear. The same dress or bag or earrings with espadrilles can take on a whole different look paired with brown booties.

Q Who is your favorite local designer?
A
Caroline, the owner of Madison Mathews, is a good friend. Her shop used to be below my apartment on Church Street. I love her easy, breezy styles and embroidery.

Q Which fall collections are you looking forward to?
A
I am especially excited to have SIKA and Fanm Mon in the shop, both are Black-owned brands that I recently found and love.

Q Is there a beauty product you cannot live without?
A
I do whatever Jordan Harper tells me to do when it comes to skin. I especially love her toning pads and tinted SPF. I’m also a bit of a Tinkle Razor fanatic!

Q What item do you splurge on?
A
Statement rings are definitely my guilty pleasure. My favorites are by local designer Annie Van Harlingen.

Q What are you eager to pull out of your closet that you haven’t worn during the pandemic?
A
I can’t wait to have an excuse to wear a cocktail dress, but mostly because I’m excited for a time when we can have cocktail parties again!
