Atlanta-based mixed-media artist Radcliffe Bailey introduces “Pensive,” a thought-provoking exhibit delving into themes of race and ancestry. Bailey’s highly poignant installation, entitled Storm at Sea, is central to the exhibit—including a glitter-covered ship afloat on a sea of old piano keys and heading toward an African sculpture—symbolic of the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Bailey’s compelling works have deep roots in the African-American civil rights movement, as seen in a cast bronze sculpture of civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois in the pose of Rodin’s The Thinker.
