Vintage meets modern in a local designer’s plush collection

The Mommy Pop Shop’s offerings change often as Cameron Schwabenton selects new fabrics.

Cameron Schwabenton, the head of local firm Cameron Stewart, is a nationally recognized interior designer who was named a Rising Star of Design by Traditional Home magazine last year. But she’s also an expert in vintage flair with a master’s degree in historic preservation.

Her newest venture brings the old and new together. Debuting at mommypopshop.com last fall, The Mommy Pop Shop—named after Schwabenton’s stylish Southern grandmother, called “Mommy Pop”—sells round pillows handcrafted in Charleston using fabrics that Schwabenton finds at vintage estate sales or sources from her favorite trade vendors.

“I’ve been making these midcentury couture pillows for private clients since 2011, when I discovered the design through research of early 1960s decorative arts,” she says. ”I wanted to expand our offerings to the general public.”

Priced at $195 to $265, they’ve already made their way into the pages of magazines such as House Beautiful, New England Home, and Country Living. Later this year, Schwabenton plans to grow the brand, adding pillows in outdoor fabrics.
