Style Q&A: Andrea Jahde

Style Q&A: Andrea Jahde
April 2018

The founder of Queen Street’s Jahde Leather Atelier chats about her latest jewelry and accessories designs, plus her personal faves for home decor and spring splurges

Jahde’s “Council Belt Bag” ($750) & “Laurens Necklace” ($250)

Q Tell us about Jahde’s spring/summer collection.
A
For this collection, I focused on new hardware, geometric shapes, and more moulding. It’s visually inspired by coral, with pops of bold colors and neon accents. We’re launching the new jewelry in April and accessories in May.

Q What other products are in the works?
A
Soon, we’ll introduce a messenger bag, an everyday tote, and new wallets. We’re also developing aprons and knife rolls for chefs, plus collaborating with businesses like Jonny Cosmetics, Nectar, and Shannon Carney Lab.

Q Is there an item you’re dying to add to your spring wardrobe?
A
I’m in the market for a bubble-gum pink blazer and wide-leg pant; Brandon Maxwell’s Spring ’18 pieces (above) are the dream!

Q Do you still anticipate adding shoes to the line?
A
Yes! I’m setting up the workshop, buying machines, and locking down my suppliers. The plan is to launch the bespoke shoe part of the business in the fall, with custom orders only.

Q What do you listen to while you work?
A
Spotify is always on in the studio, and right now I’m into Poolside and PartyNextDoor.

Sunwoven “Geometric Weaving”

Q Which local makers do you love for home goods?
A
Leigh-Ann Beverley and Teeny Morrison for photography prints. Anything by Sunwoven. And Scentervention, who made Jahde’s spring-summer candle.
